What is Deadlock?

Deadlock is Valve's multiplayer game combining third-person hero shooting with lane-based MOBA strategy. In its main mode, two teams of six fight across three lanes, using abilities and items to pressure the opposing base.

The game's occult city brings together supernatural characters, urban combat spaces, and fast movement. Deadlock remains in early development, so balance, map details, and features can change during the invite-only playtest.

Deadlock Beginner Guide

Start with the current three-lane version of Deadlock and learn the systems that matter before chasing advanced builds. This module focuses on Standard Mode, map flow, the shop, and core movement using mechanics confirmed by Valve.

  1. Pick a hero and start in Standard Mode

Choose a hero and use Standard Mode to learn the basic match flow; Ranked has separate eligibility requirements tied to Standard Mode wins.

  2. Learn the current three-lane map

Learn the current main map as a three-lane layout; Valve changed it from four lanes to three in the February 25, 2025 map rework.

  3. Use the shop and the build browser

Use the shop's Popular Items, item filters, and build browser to understand common purchases and improve a hero build.

  4. Practise movement in the Hideout

Practice movement in the Hideout or Sandbox, including sliding, dash-jumps, wall jumps, and zipline travel before relying on them in fights.

Deadlock Builds & Items

Deadlock builds change frequently, so this module should explain the live shop tools and item systems instead of publishing a frozen one-build-fits-all list. Players can use purchase data, filters, and the improved build browser to make current choices.

  • Popular Items

    Live Data

The shop can surface a hero's most frequently purchased items using live player data, including purchase frequency and the phase of the game when an item is commonly bought.

  • Item Filters

The current shop supports filters for the stats and modifiers a player wants to add to a build.

  • Build Browser

    Updated

Valve's City Never Sleeps update improved build previews, build copy/pasting, instant category resizing, and other build-browser quality-of-life features.

  • Corrupted Items

    Limited Time

During the City Never Sleeps Broker event, high-tier items can be exchanged for Corrupted versions with match-wide randomized positive and negative attributes.

Deadlock Heroes

Use this module as a factual hero directory rather than an invented S-to-C ranking. Valve's official hero feedback directory provides a stable source for hero names, while current update pages should be checked for newly announced or not-yet-released heroes.

  • A-H

Abrams, Apollo, Bebop, Billy, Calico, Celeste, The Doorman, Drifter, Dynamo, Graves, Grey Talon, Haze, and Holliday are listed in Valve's hero feedback directory.

  • I-M

Infernus, Ivy, Kelvin, Lady Geist, Lash, McGinnis, Mina, Mirage, and Mo & Krill are listed in Valve's hero feedback directory.

  • P-S

Paige, Paradox, Pocket, Rem, Seven, Shiv, Silver, and Sinclair are listed in Valve's hero feedback directory.

  • V-Y

Venator, Victor, Vindicta, Viscous, Vyper, Warden, Wraith, and Yamato are listed in Valve's hero feedback directory.

Deadlock Ranked Guide

Ranked Mode has concrete entry gates, so this module can answer a high-intent search without speculation. It should explain the Standard Mode win requirement, hero-specific eligibility, and account restrictions before players queue.

  1. Reach 60 Standard Mode wins

Earn at least 60 wins in Standard Mode before Ranked becomes available.

  2. Qualify each hero with 15 wins

Earn at least 15 Standard Mode wins on a hero before that hero is eligible for Ranked.

  3. Keep three eligible heroes ready

Have at least three Ranked-eligible heroes so the account has a valid Ranked roster.

  4. Clear active matchmaking sanctions

Clear active matchmaking sanctions such as low priority or communication bans before trying to enter the Ranked queue.

Deadlock Map & Objectives

Deadlock's map has changed substantially during development, making current map searches especially valuable. This module should orient players around the three-lane layout, the four named districts, and important City Never Sleeps locations.

  • 3 Lanes

Valve redesigned the main map around three lanes instead of the original four-lane layout in the February 25, 2025 map rework.

  • 4 Districts

    Updated

The City Never Sleeps map highlights four districts between the main streets: Theater, Chinatown, Haunted Lot, and Plaza.

  • Bell Tower

The Chinatown Bell Tower is described as a highly concentrated soul hotspot; collecting its reward causes the bell to ring loudly across the map.

  • Sunken Plaza

Sunken Plaza sits beneath the Plaza District's main square and is presented as a high-risk, high-reward area where descending affects stamina.

Deadlock Movement Guide

Movement is a major part of Deadlock's skill ceiling and has received repeated mechanical updates. This module covers movement interactions that Valve has explicitly documented rather than relying on unofficial tech lists.

  1. Jump during a slide

Jump during a slide; Valve added direct slide-jump support in the March 6, 2026 gameplay update.

  2. Add a dash-jump for air control

Use a dash-jump for a brief air-control boost; the March 6, 2026 update specifies 30% increased air control for 0.25 seconds.

  3. Use wall jumps for height

Use wall jumps for vertical and directional movement; the December 16, 2025 update states that the initial wall jump no longer costs stamina.

  4. Parry while ground dashing

Parry while ground dashing when needed; Valve enabled parrying during ground dashes in the April 10, 2026 update.

Deadlock Patch Notes

Deadlock remains in early development, so current patch information is essential for builds, maps, heroes, and objectives. This module should surface the latest major update first and point readers to Valve's ongoing official announcements.

  • City Never Sleeps

    New

Valve's September 29, 2026 major update delivers a large visual overhaul to the map and neutral enemies.

  • Six New Heroes

    New

City Never Sleeps announces six new heroes with community voting on release order and a staged release schedule beginning October 2, 2026.

  • New Map Systems

    Updated

The update adds or refreshes systems such as Haunts, district encounters, Tough Crates, Buff Containers, Healing Snacks, and Steam Vents.

Deadlock Settings & Crosshair

Settings, reticles, and keybinds are recurring player searches in a competitive third-person game. The current client includes shareable settings and new tools that make a practical settings page possible without inventing pro-player presets.

  • Shareable Settings

    Updated

Players can copy reticle and keybind settings as a code to share them or apply another player's code.

  • Keybind Map

The Keybind Map shows every bound keyboard and mouse input and which inputs are still free.

  • Health & Damage

Current settings include options for health-number display and how cumulative damage is shown.

  • Speed Graph

Sandbox tools include a real-time graph that displays movement speed while testing.
